In Search of Clover

As I'm running, I can see a pasture in the distance; cows are grazing. To me it’s all just grass, but to a cow it’s a smorgasboard of choices for dinner. The cow will go straight for that sweet clover every time, passing over the thorny thistles, but to my eye – all I see is green – because I don’t take the time to focus.

I don’t take the time to focus on the differences – that not every grass is the same, not every grass is even green. And not every Muslim is a terrorist, not every Hispanic an illegal immigrant, not every chick likes chick-lit. We’re all individuals here – just like Barney the Purple Philosoraptor tells our children, “We’re all different, but we’re all special.”

We all want to be special. We all want to have our uniqueness acknowledged, valued, appreciated, and loved, yet, how easy is it for us to lump everyone else into a pot and say – “You! You are a terrorist. You don’t belong here.”

In God’s eyes we all have value. We all are loved. He doesn’t see us as a vast green pasture, but sees us each as a unique blade of grass, like a cow does.

I’m going to go search for some of that sweet clover.
